MFHS 2014 - The 2nd Conference on Microfluidic Handling Systems has been a great success!

This year the MFHS took place in Freiburg. The conference focused on low volume liquid handling systems in the sub-microliter range. 116 participants from academia and industry took the chance to use the MFHS as a platform for exchanging each other and providing new ideas for future developments.

With over 120 participants, the MFHS has grown 20 % compared to the first conference, which was held 2012 in the Netherlands. 25 presentations on the latest research findings on microfluidics have been shown to the audience. One of the main goals of the MFHS is to bring academia and industry together on a platform that allows for early exchange between these two. On this basis the reasearch groups get a good insight on the current needs of the markets and the attending companies get early access to new developments that can be beneficial for their future products. With a split of 40% participants from industry and 60% from academia, the MFHS was able to generate a great atmosphere for exchanging and generating new approaches.

The best presenatation as well as the best poster have been awarded with a check of 250€. Ivo Leibacher, from the ETH Zurich has won the best poster award with his poster on "MICROFLUIDIC DROPLET HANDLING BY ACOUSTO-PHORESIS ON BULK ACOUSTIC WAVE (BAW) DEVICES".

Lisa Schott from the Fraunhofer ICT-IMM won the best presentation award, lecturing on "CELL SIZE DISCRIMINATION BASED ON THE MEASUREMENT OF THE EQUILIBRIUM VELOCITY IN RECTANGULAR MICROCHANNELS FOR POINT OF CARE DIAGNOSTICS".
